Paper: Why So Serious?

Saturday 28 November 2020
12:30 to 13:30

I never would have made it if I could not have laughed. It lifted me momentarily out of this horrible situation, just enough to make it livable. — Viktor Frankl

This zoom session is an exploration of humour in therapy, healing and comedy and the role of laughter in recovery. Is it ok to laugh at trauma? To make jokes as therapists? Dramatherapy draws from a range of theatrical styles and humour is integral to many, we are clowns and fools and improvisors but what of the stand up comics?

Drawing from reflection on practice, personal experience, research, literature and many nights in comedy clubs, this interactive exploration aims to generate discussions on the theme and maybe crack a few jokes.

Even the gods love jokes — Plato

This session is being recorded.
